STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events that build proficiency and achievement in leadership and job-related skills. Clarinda FCCLA members Andrea Nelson and Sarah Steinaur competed at the conference in Illustrated Talk and received Gold 1st place. This top score qualifies them for the national competition in Orlando, Florida in July. They will travel with their FCCLA sponsor Cheryl Beaver to the event.

FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), formerly FHA, teaches students financial literacy, health and nutrition, career preparation, and early childhood development skills through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA is a unique organization because its programs are planned and run by student members. It is the only student-led organization with the family as its central focus.

FCCLA has over a quarter of a million members and nearly 7,000 chapters in fifty state associations, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since it was founded in 1945.
