Norris FFA Serves the Community
11/12/2007 11:30:23 AM

This summer the Norris FFA participated in and did an excellent job at the Lancaster County Fair. The FFA had members compete in many activities such as the beef, swine, and sheep shows, as well as enter different ag mechanics display boards. Members of the Norris FFA also participated in the hay hauling contest.

In the girls’ hay hauling division, Norris teams took first and second. The first place team was made up of Amanda Docter, Kelsey Gugat, and Natalie Nason. The second place Norris team consisted of Jill Docter, Lindsay Damkroger, and Emily Rice.

Dylan Wagner participated in the beef show and received eight champions in Beef Showman Intermediate, exotic feeder—male, exotic March/April, market heifer, market steer, Lancaster born & raised, market steer performance and a reserve champion in Exotic Feeder heifer.
Also in the Beef Show Garret Schrock received a purple in Commercial British, Shorthorn, & Senior Beef showmanship.

Brooke Pearson received reserve champion intermediate beef showman, as well as a purple in British feeder male. Pearson also received a reserve champion shorthorn yearling and blues on her market steer and market steer performance.
In the swine show Emilia Woeppel received a purple and two blues, Melissa Woeppel earned two blues and one red and six blue ribbons in the swine show.

Showing in the Gage County Fair, Amanda Docter faired well in the beef show. She received a blue for her market heifer, breeding heifer, and in showmanship.

Norris FFA Chapter members took their County Fair success to the Nebraska State Fair and had a very successful year showing at the State Fair. They not only had 56 members compete in areas from livestock to crops and floriculture, but the FFA t-shirts were also designed by junior Emily Rice! Our Chapter is very pleased to have our names on the shirt as well as a picture of Ron Preston’s horse! Three members brought home Grand and Reserve Champions. They were Cody Bodfield, Grand Champion with his electrical board in Ag Mechanics; Elise Edgar, Reserve Champion with her stalks of corn in Crops and Range Boards; and Collin Volker, Reserve Champion with his ears of corn in Crops and Range Boards.
Other results from the members were:
