On January 29, 2009 the local FFA students had the opportunity to travel to Northeast Community College in Norfolk for District Livestock Judging. For many of the members this was a first time experience, but for others it was another fun filled contest.
The senior division overall did very well and placed 1st out of 17 teams. The senior team received 1st and they will be competing at the state level in April.
Individually, Jessie Ahrens won the competition placing 1st out of 63 participants and receiving a purple. Brent Meister also placed 5th overall and Chris Reimers placed 11th. Also competing in the senior division were Kelli Luebbert, Angie Weiler, and Matt Reppert.
Overall the junior team received a red. Receiving a blue ribbon was Patrick Luebbert. Also receiving a red was Jen Rasmus, Amber Ernesti, Curtis Rodgers, Aaron Spenner, and Katelyn Ahrens.
Each year it seems that the livestock gets tougher to judge and new competition is always present, but West Point continues to strive to place at the top.
