National FFA Week
FFA positively influences the young people of our community by developing character, responsibility and leadership skills. FFA members are the agriculture innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
Through agricultural education and hands-on learning, they prepare for more than 300 career opportunities in the food, fiber and natural resources industries. With more than a half million members, the National FFA Organization reaches out to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Please join the Lewiston FFA in recognizing National FFA Week, February 21st through the 28th.
We’re proud of the students who make FFA part of their lives and say thank you to the many supporters, parents and teachers who help with our many activities.
This year the Lewiston FFA members have planned several activities for FFA Week. This year we kicked off FFA week by inviting the Lewiston FCCLA to join us at the Beatrice YMCA on Saturday night for our annual pool party. Monday saw the start of our annual pitch tournament, with 26 teams vying for this years champion.
Several FFA members visited elementary classrooms and spoke to students about the importance of plants in our world. The FFA members then helped students plant flowers from seed which, they can take home when it warms up.
Our chapter also hosted a children’s barnyard, a car show, dodge-ball tournament, official dress day and an Ag Olympics competition. In addition to all these activities our chapter President and Vice President took time to record a radio spot at KUTT 99.5 in Beatrice which aired during FFA week. Thank You to all the students and faculty for your hard work and cooperation during this busy week.
District Leadership Skills Contests
The District I FFA Leadership Skills (LSE) contests were held on January 20th, at SCC in Beatrice. This year we only had two individuals competing for state qualifying slots. Chelsea Sedlacek competed in the FFA Creed Speaking contest where she received a red ribbon for her efforts.
Skylar Scott competed in the employment skills contest where he also received a red. Even though neither of them qualified for State, we are very proud of their efforts and thank them for all the extra work they put in to represent our Lewiston FFA chapter.
