Brokaw FFA Members Compete in Leadership Events
3/13/2009 10:40:05 AM

Brokaw FFA members of Clarinda recently competed in Career Development Events at the outhwest District FFA Convention held at the Audubon High School in Audubon on Saturday, March 7.

Twenty-one chapter members competed in seven different events, two members served as delegates, and one member ran for the office of district reporter for the 2009-2010 school year. The following members competed in the following events at the district level with their placings in parentheses: Cassie McNees, Kaela Eggers, Tia Campbell, Lindsey Poore, and Christy Williamson in the Parliamentary Procedure Contest (Gold, Alternate to State); JJ Sunderman in the Ag Sales contest (Gold, Advance to State); Jill McCall in the Job Interview contest (Gold, Advance to State); Amanda McNees, Chantel King, and Nevada Turner in the Program of Activities contest (Gold, Advance to State); Laura Beaver in the Radio Broadcasting contest (Silver); Tyler Steeve, Korbin Thomas, Jeremiah Haug, Scott Brockman, Cordell Turner, Kenny Hobson, and Nathan Harvey in the Conduct of Meetings contest (Silver); and Austin Ascherl, Jenna Holt, and Dustin Sump in the Farm Business Management contest (all received a Silver rating). The Conduct of Meetings contest participants also participated in the Greenhand Quiz contest, with the following ratings: Hobson, Brockman, Steeve, and Thomas receiving Silver ratings, and Haug and Harvey receiving a Bronze rating.

Talynn Hughes ran for a district office at the convention as well. Hughes gave a two-minute speech to delegates and answered questions as part of the election process. Despite her hard work in preparing, she was not elected to office. Serving as delegates from the Brokaw chapter were Nick Comer and Emma Sunderman.

The five members from the three contest areas who advanced, as well as the Farm Business Management team and the top two Greenhand Quiz scorers from our chapter, will compete against members from chapters out of the other five FFA districts in the state of Iowa at the State FFA Leadership Conference in Des Moines on April 16-17.
