Lawrence-Nelson FFA News
3/19/2009 11:11:45 AM

What a great year Lawrence Nelson FFA students have experienced. A big THANK YOU to the community for their continuing support. Last July members worked at the Nuckolls County Fair helping out at the food booths during fair time.

Students have also hosted many events such as a sloppy joe dinner for the Land Judging competition hosted by Little Blue NRD, group leaders for the Earth Jamboree and a Harvest Supper in November to thank the hard working farming families in their communities.
Five members from LN FFA also participated in the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis held in October. Kaci Schroer, Luke Schroer, Kayla Sole, Lakin Lynch and Chantel McCutchon participated in the Taylor Swift concert, PBR championship and numerous leadership development workshops. Another highlight of the trip was a tour of the Indianapolis Speedway including the opportunity ride around the track in a tour car.
Lawrence-Nelson members also competed in the livestock judging competition qualifying a junior team for state. The junior team consists of Lisa Pohlmeier, Jared Reiman, Luke Schroer and Kasandra Fanning. Senior Drew Cassell was the second high individual in the senior division.
In January students traveled to the Aurora Youth Leadership center and competed in Creed speaking and Job Interview. Kenzee Kucera competed in the Creed Speaking competition and placed 4th out of 18 speakers. Whitney Schroer and Kaci Schroer competed in the Job Interview and placed 5th and 8th respectively.
Members had a wonderful National FFA Week in February. Students began their FFA week by decorating the school in blue and gold as well as doing a Got Your Goat Fundraiser which was extremely successful in raising $768.00 in one day.

Students hosted a pancake appreciation breakfast for teachers and staff members on Wednesday Feb 25th and a petting zoo for the elementary students including Sacred Heart School. Kaci and Whitney Schroer led the activities for the petting zoo which included dairy cows, goats, puppies, chickens, mini-horses and a horse. A thank you to Mrs. Kelly Schroer for overseeing the activities at the petting zoo.

Members rounded out the weeks activities with a trip to Kearney to attend in the Made for Excellence and Advanced Leadership Development Conferences.
