South Platte FFA News

On January 14, 2009 the livestock management team and the welding team took a trip to Scottsbluff to compete at the District 12 FFA event.

The livestock management team did very well in their area finishing as district runner up, which qualified them for the state competition in April.
The livestock management team consisted of Seth Waterman, Terryl Peterman, Jennifer Sauers, Jason Dolezal, Pam Radke, and Mikel Dowdy.
The welding team also represented South Platte adequately with a sixth place team finish. Members in welding were Cameron Christensen, Mark McClung, and James McClung. 
On February 13th, during the last home basketball game we hosted our 2nd annual labor auction.
Much like the year before it proved to be successful, and it’s always great to see all of our local support. Saturday, February 28th, seven members traveled to Eustis, NE for their annual Career Development Events.
At Eustis we competed in Agronomy, and came away with a 3rd place team plaque and several individual awards. Overall it was a great way to prepare for our district and state competitions.
Three days later on March 3rd we were at it again, traveling to Kimball for our district competition in Agronomy and Meats Evaluation. Once again we had a successful day, earning 1st and 3rd place team honors in agronomy, and additionally had two of our students receive high individual awards: Mark McClung 1st place and Jennifer Sauers 2nd place overall.
The first place team consisted of Cameron Christensen, Mark McClung, Pam Radke, and Kyle Krause.  The Meats Evaluation team did evenly as well with a second place team finish. 
The members making up the meats team was Seth Waterman, Jason Dolezal, Terryl Peterman, and J.C. Lanckriet.
There are a total of twelve FFA members attending the state convention on the dates of April 1st through the 3rd in Lincoln, NE.
The members attending state convention will compete in the following Career Development Event areas: Agronomy -Mark McClung, James McClung, Cameron Christensen, and Kyle Krause. Livestock Management- Pam Radke, Jennifer Sauers, Mikel Dowdy, Seth Waterman, Terryl Peterman, and Hunter Walker. Meats Evaluation - J.C. Lanckriet, Jason Dolezal, Seth Waterman, and Terryl Peterman.
During our stay in Lincoln we plan to attend many of the convention activities, and most importantly have some fun during our spare time.
Overall, our spring schedule has been relatively busy, but nevertheless full of excitement.
Throughout the year we have seen the rewards of our hard work, and hope to continue our successes at state.
