In December, a food drive was held within the school collecting over 1300 cans of food for an area food pantry. This was held as a school wide competition between groups, the girls basketball team collected the most cans and will be rewarded with a pizza party in the spring. Fruit was delivered the second week of December and members were very busy delivering fruit. This is our big fund raiser for the year. A Christmas party was held during the monthly meeting, members exchanged gifts and played dodge ball.
December Leadership skills contests at Chadron results were as follows: Sr Public speaking - Bryce Vaughn Alt for state Jr. Public- Nikki Dunovsky Alt for state Natural Resources-Alyssa Dye — Blue Extemperaneous speech-Brittany Andersen-red Job Interview- Deni Bennett-red Jr. Parli -Brittany Anderson, Briar Clark, Garrett Lower, Alyssa Dye, Kyle Coleman, Nikki Dunovsky, Annalise Placek, -Alternate for state Sr Parli- Bryce Vaughn, Denielle Bennett, Sage Henderson, Spencer Rowley, David Henderson, Brodrick Nickens – Blue ribbon
In January FFA members took a trip to the Denver Stock show. Members had to have enough FFA activity points to attend, those active members included:Bryce Vaughn, Brodrick Nickens, Nikki Dunovsky, Katherine Aby, Brittany Andersen, Kyle Coleman, Hayley Loch, Nevin Price, Sage Henderson, Annnalise Placek, Denielle Bennett, Sean Sward, Spencer Rowley, Alyssa Dye, Briar Clark.
In February, the Alliance FFA participated in the area Envirothon. The area envirothon was held Feb 4 at Gordon-Rushville High School. Sixteen teams participated from the area. Alliance FFA members Alyssa Dye, Miranda McDonald, Cassie Green, and David Henderson placed third overall. The competition is made up of the areas of Natural Resources, Forestry, Wildlife, Soils, Water, Environmental Policy and Range.
The Alliance Team placed first in Environmental Policy. The FFA celebrated FFA week by having radio spots promotions, a teachers breakfast, a movie night for members and painting windows downtown.
In March the FFA competed in the our last set of district CDE’s. The nursery Landscape team of Nevin Price, Katherine Aby, Alyssa Dye, and Miranda McDonald placed 2nd and qualified for state. The Sr. Livestock Judging contest was won by Sage Henderson and her team placed high enough to qualify for state, team members include Sage, Brodrick Nickens, Bryce Vaughn, and Spencer Rowley. Also qualifying this year for State FFA CDE’s are the Ag Marketing team consisting of Bryce Vaughn, Spencer Rowley, Sage Henderson, and Brittany Andersen, a Food Science team consisting of Brittany Andersen, Katherine Aby, Nikki Dunovsky, and Annalise Placek, and an Agriscience team consisting of Garrett Lower, Annalise Placek, Dillion Rich, and Miranda McDonald. We hope to see everyone in Lincoln for State FFA Convention April 1-3.
The 2008-2009 chapter officers are: President Bryce Vaughn, Vice-President Spencer Rowley, Secretary Sage Henderson, Treasurer Brittany Andersen, Reporter Katherine Aby, Historian Alyssa Dye, Sentinel Brodrick Nickens, Parliamentarian Kyle Coleman, Jr. Advisor Hayley Loch and Lori Walla Advisor.
