Four place at 2009 State Convention for Broken Bow

   The Broken Bow FFA Chapter had 26 members attend the 2009 State FFA Convention on April 1st through the 4th held in Lincoln, Nebraska.
   These students competed in nine different areas, four of them placing in the top seven in the state contest. The following is a list of team results:
The Food Science team placed 3rd in the state. The food science team consists of Cortney Hendrickson, Allyn Leick (blue ribbon), JJ Buhlman (blue ribbon), and Sam Troxel who placed fourth as an individual.
The Welding team placed 5th overall. Troy Schweitzer placed 4th in Oxyacetylene Welding, Lance Oatman was 5th in MIG Welding and Print Zutavern in Arc Welding received a blue ribbon.
   The Nursery and Landscape Management team placed 7th overall. The team consisted of Lacey Finney (blue ribbon), Cortney Hendrickson (blue ribbon), Allyn Leick (blue ribbon), and Drew Schendt (white ribbon).
   In Creed speaking we had one speaker, Ashley Schweitzer. She received a gold medal. Along with the speaking contests we had Sam Troxel who received a 4th Gold in Equine Science-Entrepreneurship Proficiency; Allyn Leick who received a 4th Gold in Equine Science-Placement Proficiency; and Lance Oatman who received a bronze in Ag Mechanics – Repair and Maintenance Proficiency.
   Other placings were: Travis Connely (blue ribbon), Sam Troxel (red ribbon) in Ag Sales along with Collin Chytka and Drew Schendt placing on the team with a white ribbon.
   In Agriscience Sidney Troxel earned a white ribbon. Nate Birnie and Justin Griffiths received red ribbons in Natural Resources. Justin Griffiths a red ribbon and Print Zutavern a white ribbon in Senior Livestock Judging.
   Seven eighth graders participated in the State Quiz Bowl and Junior High Workshop. They attended a leadership session Friday afternoon after which they had the opportunity to tour the State Capitol Building.
   The Broken Bow FFA Chapter ranked well in chapter competition. We placed in the top ten chapters in Safety Education and Natural Resource Education. The chapter received Gold in Chapter Rating and Community Development. Our Principal Ken Kujath was recognized with the Nebraska FFA Cornerstone Award.
   This elite award recognizes current school administrators for their long-term support of agricultural education/FFA and the leadership provided for their school system.
   We will finish out this year with our upcoming Officer Interviews on April 16th to develop a slate of officers for our chapter to elect who they want as their leadership team as we begin starting plans for next year.
   Our annual Parent/Member Banquet will be April 27, 2009 where the members are recognized for their achievements throughout the previous year as they are given their rewards earned from their involvement.
